Yikes! August is almost booked up, if you are looking for days in August book them now!
The weather has been so nice the last week, only yesterday did the rain again come to visit us here at the beach. The
sun is shinning this afternoon and guests are hitting the beach. The rocky shores of winter are still being uncovered by the
high tides and folks have been having good luck at finding agates on the local beaches.
My favorite beach to search for agates is Stonefield Beach within walking distance from Beachcomber Cottages to the south.
Once there I follow the coastline south as far as you can go without climbing up huge rock formations. There I saw around
twenty sea lions sunning themselves in the late morning just as high tide was headed out. Further out to sea were three cormorants
spending the day and drying their wings.
We have graveled our driveway this week to hopefully help keep some of the wintertime dirt out of the rooms, we also put
tree bark down near our bridge to make it safer and prevent slips. The moles are still free here should you want any and by
all means feel free to take their holes as well.
The RV Park will be opening up on March 1st (it had been closed due to rebuilding since June 2007), which will effect
the ocean views from units 2 & 3 as they are canted to the southwest. We don't believe the park will be noisy as it wasn't
before and they have raised their rates dramatically. Of course we are not thrilled with the prospect there is little we can
do short of rebuilding the cottages and that would really change the BC as they have been this way for over 50 years.
Thanks for visiting today and hope to see you soon.

The ocean is beautiful today, full of bright white waves, swells are still dangerously high, you can hear the rolling
of rocks and pebbles tumbling with each wave meeting the shore. Although the ocean is high for the most part low tides make
the beachcombing great. We have found about 6 pounds of agates in just under two hours time, and one of those is about 2 pounds
itself. The Sands of Summer beaches are quickly giving way to the rocky shoreline of winter. The tide pools that were buried
with sand are now starting to see the sun once again.
We do have one guest who is making a sidewalk of agates at her home in Carson City NV, and she is here for about two weeks
adding to her collection. Many dedicated beachcomber folks are hitting the beaches of Oregon this time of year, but there
is plenty for everyone.
We did not see any whales making their way south yet this winter, mainly because the waves have been huge and the whales
are in a hurry to pass by. The weather here has been colder, temps have been ranging in the mid 40's to the mid 50s. Nights
are much colder of course often dropping below freezing and we wake to ice. It has been raining pretty much everyday, today
has been mostly sunny however but some drops are just now finding their way to us. The wind has been from none to gusts around
50mph this week (much better then the 110 Mph we had back in Nov.)
We have been visited by the elk nightly for a month or so as they make their way down to get needed salt from the ocean,
they have even been using our foot bridge. Other wildlife here are birds around the office feasting on our feeders and of
course the Moles out in our yard, (free if you want them!)
We are really starting to book up for the Summer season, so if you have plans of staying with us, be sure you get the
days you need by booking early.
Remember to don't turn your back from the ocean or have your MP3 Player so loud you can't hear those sneaky rouge waves!
It seems that someone in the state is taken by waves weekly - please don't let it be you!
If you need a more luxurious place to stay this Summer, visit our link to our Red Door House located on Alsea Bay in Waldport,
it's a great place and a perfect choice for a getaway!
